If you read Jenna Hartley’s Feels Like Love (Alondra Valley Book 1), which happens post Irreplaceable, you know that Harper ends up getting her HEA, but knowing that didn’t make her road there wasn’t any less emotional. She has been trying on her own for a baby via medical intervention and after the devastating news of a chemical pregnancy, she extends her business trip in Bali to include a week-long vacation. The fates have her crossing paths with a sexy Italian (of the tall, dark and mysterious variety) who is also there on vacation. They have an instant connection and end up spending the week in each other’s arms. Things go south at the end of the trip and despite their parting on less than favorable terms, Harper can’t stop thinking about him, especially when she finds out she’s pregnant. When googling his name brings up nothing, she figures she’ll never see him again. Little does she know, the fates weren’t done with her. Her mystery man is a celebrity soccer player… one who is transferring to Los Angeles. Once he sees her, he makes it his mission to never let her go again but it’s going to take more than a few words and a famous face to regain her trust. In the end, it’s not just a romance but a story of heart-break and hope, resiliency and redemption. A happily-ever-after that is as satisfying as it is well-earned.
I’ve loved watching Jenna’s writing grow along with each of the characters of this series. The story arcs, character development, transitions, pacing… all of it has gotten smoother over time. I know this was a really tough book for Jenna to write. She put a lot of time and effort into getting it to where she wanted it and it shows. The interactions and emotions between the characters felt authentic and the way the story progresses felt organic. I’ve been reading her work from the very beginning and I think this is one of her most compelling books to date. After such a successful series, it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to Alexis, Lauren, Juliana and Harper but this book does a fantastic job of wrapping things up and leaves readers at once satisfied and ready to transition into the world of Alondra Valley. We’ll be able to reunite with Wren and Bennett, catch a glimpse of Harper and Enzo and meet a whole host of new, exciting characters! I can’t wait!
